Write Your Inspiration
1-2-Writing Workshops Online is dedicated to supporting writers with free and low-cost writing resources. Currently, we're developing an online social network for writing workshops - to learn more about this project, visit my blog post Creating an Online Writing University.
Currently, our main features include our Creative Writing Blog and our Homepage.
From the homepage, you can follow the links to learn more about how to write in specific genres. These pages help you find what you're looking for by providing tips and keywords to specific articles on the blog:
Fiction - Learn to write with character, conflict, plot, voice, tone, dialogue, and setting.
Poetry - Add rhythm to your poems with meter, rhyme, imagery, and voice.
Memoir - Articles, Prompts, and Book Picks for writing in one of the most personal forms of writing.
For Undergraduate Writers
If you are a beginning writer, you may be interested in visiting my class web page for Introduction to Fiction and Poetry (IFP), a creative writing course I teach here at Johns Hopkins. Through IFP, undergraduate students learn the essentials of writing poems and short stories. In addition, they read works by authors such as Elizabeth Bishop, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Amy Hempel, Bernard Malamud, and Seamus Heaney. Through the homepage, you can find links to specific IFP Blog Articles on sonnets, literary essays, writing assignments, and putting together a portfolio.
